This morning, in Santa Clarita, CA, at Saugus High School, there was another school shooting. This time, a 15 year old got a gun, took it to school, and started shooting people.
As the parent of three school aged kids, I cannot help but think about the fear, loss, pain, anger, anxiety, and flood of all the other possible emotions that the kids, the family and their friends are all experiencing right now, and I pray for them.
At the time of this writing, one of the victims has died and five others are hospitalized, several of whom are critical.
The cowardly suspect fled the school and shot himself a short distance away. Initial rumors were that he was dead, but it has only been confirmed that he shot himself. I will not be surprised if we later learn he was dead, but they could not state that publicly until next of kin were notified.
Before the suspect had even been apprehended, liberal anti-gun politicians were taking to social media to blame the NRA, because who else would you blame when there is a shooting?
Here is the thing though, California already has every possible, remotely conceivable gun law, whether or not they are constitutional, and they keep adding more seemingly every month.
The suspect was 15 years old, and as such was not legally eligible to buy even a BB gun in this state, let alone an actual firearm or ammunition.
In California, it is against the law for anyone to store a firearm in a manner that would allow a juvenile to obtain the firearm.
It is illegal to bring any weapon onto a school in California.
Yet this morning, a 15 year old took a loaded gun to a school and shot six people.
Despite all the laws in place, this is not the first time something like this has happened, nor will it be the last.
Please, stop and think, just for a moment. Do you honestly think there is a gun law, any gun law, that can somehow prevent this?
Yet, despite the abundance of evidence to the contrary, liberal politicians and anti-gun organizations will use this absolute failure of the mountain of existing gun control laws as evidence that we need more gun control laws. Hell, they are already doing exactly that.
Very soon, those same politicians and groups will trot out scared, emotionally raw students and distraught loved ones to use as props to push more gun control.
Instead, what this incident in Santa Clarita should show you is that what I have been saying for years is true – laws cannot prevent crime.
Sadly, this school shooting perfectly exemplifies what I stated in my most recent article, and that is that no gun law can ever stop a motivated killer. The suspect always finds a way to get a gun, like this suspect did, and these suspects are not dissuaded by the repercussions of their actions (punishment), because they plan on dying after completing their act, just like this suspect did, or tried to do, when he shot himself.
As a society, we need to get serious about the problem and address the perpetrator, not the tool. Until that happens, these school shootings will continue unabated.
