Liberal Policies Got Another Cop Killed

Opinion

Yesterday, October 23, 2019 was a rough day in my neck of the woods for people who are in my former profession. Not far from my home, at a location on a street I have driven several times, a cop was killed.

Deputy Brian Ishmael of the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office was shot and killed shortly after arriving at a call for service. He had a ride along with him who was also injured in the gunfight, but thankfully survived.

Soon, Brian’s murder will be twisted and used as a prop by liberal politicians and the anti-gun left as a reason to ban guns.

They will attempt to use the profession of law enforcement as a pawn, and say things like “we need to ban guns to keep our cops safe.”

They will show pictures of Brian with his wife and kids.

They will show pictures of his coworkers mourning his loss.

They will show pictures of the community at candlelight vigils honoring his sacrifice.

Those politicians and anti-gun groups will do all of those things publicly, all the while knowing their actions are completely dishonest.

It was not California’s lack of gun control that got Brian killed. Who are you trying to kid? California has the strictest gun control laws in the nation.

What got Brian killed was California’s “sanctuary state” laws!

You see, the two men who shot and killed Brian, and who injured Brian’s ride along, they were illegal aliens. And since it is against the law for illegal aliens to posses guns, they clearly did not obtain their weapons legally.

Yet, the people calling for more gun control are the very same people who not only support “sanctuary state” policies, but they also are using tax money to give those illegal aliens free welfare, college and healthcare.

The people who are going to try to use Brian’s death to disarm the population are the very people responsible for Brian’s death, because of their policies.

Memorial to the three deputies killed by illegal aliens

How do I know all of this? Because five years ago today, on October 24, 2014, a coworker of mine, Sacramento Sheriff’s Deputy Danny Oliver, was murdered by an illegal alien with an illegally possessed, banned in California gun. That illegal alien then fled to Placer County where he shot and killed Detective Michael Davis, Jr.

At the time that Danny and Mike were killed, the politicians and anti-gun groups I am talking about did the very same thing then that I am predicting they will do now. They blamed the gun.

They did it then, and they will do it again now. Because they are nothing if not predictable. After all, as a very anti-gun politician once said, never let a good crisis go to waste…

There is no gun law imaginable that could have prevented the deaths of these three deputies. However, a secure border could have.

I wish I knew what it is going to take for Americans to wake up to the fact that you cannot reduce violence by banning guns. The only way to reduce violence is by keeping violent people away from society, and you cannot do that by kicking felons out of prison early or by having open borders.

UPDATE: El Dorado County Sheriff John D’Agostini held a press conference yesterday, October 24, 2019 offering some updates in the investigation. The subject of the legal status of the suspects came up. Due to legal issues that can be brought against law enforcement in California, the Sheriff was somewhat cryptic. Surprisingly, the news media seems to be, for once, unable to read between lines or make an educated guess, so let me clarify. Yes, they were illegal aliens.
