Woman Shoots Ex in Self Defense

News

HOUSTON, TX – Friday, Nov 20 – A man was shot and killed in an apartment after allegedly breaking in around 10pm.

According to KHOU-11, Lt. Pavel said the man was shot by his ex-girlfriend who lived in the apartment.

Self Defense

In a press release that was published at a later time, the Houston Police noted that multiple witnesses saw the man, who was armed, breaking into the apartment and threatening the occupant(s) inside before he was shot.

No charges have been filed, and as per standard procedure in any fatal shooting, the case has been referred to the prosecuting attorneys for their review.

Neither identities of the involved parties have been released to the public at this time.

Street Cop Opinion

Self-defense shootings such as this one are not remotely unheard of, yet the mainstream media does not sensationalize them. Furthermore, they rarely reach the national news level, unless they happen to fit some sort of anti-gun agenda (ie: Trayvon Martin), which gives the general public the false impression that they are rare.

The thing is, stories like this are newsworthy and should be shared.

Why you ask? Here is a case of a woman defending herself against an armed, violent attacker. The gun once again proves to be the great equalizer, and this woman is still alive because she took personal interest in her own self protection.

The news is full of stories of women being attacked by their exes turned stalker, and those stories often gain national attention, yet here is a story with the opposite ending and almost zero attention aside from a four sentence blurb on the local news.

Civil Rights

Gun rights are the very definition of civil rights for all, regardless of race, gender or sexual orientation.

Nothing is more empowering for a person of limited strength and small stature, whether they be young, old, male or female, than a simple tool that allows them to protect themselves from someone far larger, stronger and willing to hurt or kill them.

A very old adage from the early 1800’s goes, “God created man and Sam Colt made them equal.” While Colt firearms do not hold nearly the same market share today that they did when that saying originated, the theory holds true, as this recent self-defense shooting from HOUSTON demonstrates.
