Hello, and welcome to 2A Cops. You might be wondering who we are and what we are trying to do here. Our mission is pretty simple.
We exist because a great many politicians and other anti-gun organizations like to use our profession as a pawn in their political attack on the right of American citizens to own firearms, a right our founding fathers guaranteed all of us when they wrote the second amendment. Not only do they falsely claim that law enforcement as a whole supports whatever their proposed gun control measure of the month is, but they also like to point to instances where cops have been murdered by someone wielding a firearm in an effort to use us as a prop.
All of the contributors here are either retired or active duty cops. All of us have a strong commitment to the oath we took when pinned on our badges and swore to uphold and defend the constitution of the United States. We also believe strongly about protecting the communities in which we live and serve(d). None of us here support additional infringements on any of our constitutionally guaranteed rights, including the second amendment.
People who do not know any cops personally are often surprised to find out that the overwhelming majority of cops do NOT support additional gun control. To listen to politicians and organizations pushing gun control, you would think that nearly every cop wants to ban guns, but nothing could be further from the truth. One of the largest surveys ever done of law enforcement officers (LEOs) was conducted a few years ago by Police One. More than 15,000 verified LEOs participated and, depending on the specific question, between 75-95% of those surveyed did not think additional gun laws would make any difference in violent crime.
Please do not misunderstand our commitment to the second amendment to mean that we do not want to see changes made to help keep both the public and the members of law enforcement safer. We just support a different approach than those who constantly call for the banning of weapons. Our multiple decades firsthand experience plainly demonstrated to us that laws will never stop a motivated criminal, but more often than not, when a good guy (or gal) with a gun is present, a criminal’s actions stop much sooner, either by their own choice, or through the actions of a third party forcing them to stop.
We hope that this page can be a source of information for people who have not already made up their minds about gun control. We hope that you will consider our opinions, which are based on our years of expertise on the subject of crimes and crime prevention. To those who are staunch supporters of more gun control, we invite you to consider what we say and engage in the discussion that will follow.
Our only requirement for everyone who chooses to engage in discussions here is that you do so in a polite, adult manner without name calling, casting blame or spewing hatred of people based solely on their choice to own certain inanimate objects.
Be safe out there, and remember your ABC’s, Always Be Carrying.
