On February 28, 2022, a man shot and killed four people in a church, and then turned the gun on himself and committed suicide. It became national news, mostly because it originally came out as an “active shooter” incident, but it was not. The usual gaggle of anti-gun politicians and organizations immediately jumped on it, blaming the gun and gun laws.
Gavin Newsom not only lead that charge. The tweet pictured above came out while the scene was still very active and the identities of those involved were not yet confirmed. Aside from leading he charge, he also did so while lying out of his butt (nothing new for him). He is most definitely NOT working closely with law enforcement, in fact he is actively hindering them. But more on that later.
You see, I have some personal ties to this incident. This occurred in the county where I worked as a cop, and not only that, but it happened in what was my patrol district for many years, in a church whose parking lot I used on many occasions, at an intersection where I nearly shot someone once. I had friends at this incident, and I was speaking to some of my former coworkers via text while this incident unfolded. The aftermath of this incident is going to mess with a lot of them, because nothing tears at your soul like a child murder, and here three innocent young girls were murdered in a most horrible manner, by none other than their father.
As with all tragic murders where a gun was used, the gun itself did not commit this act, a human did, so rather than focus on the inanimate object, let us look at the perpetrator (whom we will not name here – his name is readily available) and some of the other facts surrounding this incident.
- The suspect was in this country illegally.
- The suspect had long standing mental health problems, including homicidal and suicidal thoughts.
- The suspect had an active restraining order against him.
- As an illegal alien, and as someone with an active restraining order, the suspect is twice legally prohibited from possessing a gun.
- The mother of the three girls had tried to prevent the suspect from having contact with them due to his violent tendencies, but a court somewhere mandated supervised visitation (this murder occurred during a supervised visitation).
- The fourth victim was the woman supervising the court ordered visitation.
- The suspect was recently arrested 5 days before this incident for DUI, resisting arrest and assaulting medical staff.
- There was an ICE detainer issued for the suspect while he was in custody for the above offenses, but due to California’s sanctuary state laws, the department was prevented from cooperating and he was released from custody.
- Five days later, a man who should have never been in this country, who should have been in jail, and was only loose on our streets thanks to liberal policies, murdered his three daughters and an innocent man.
At least Kevin Kiley, a California state legislator, is willing to talk about the facts, and actually waited until they were known before piping up.
Facts matter, and in this case just like so many others, the problem is the suspect would not have been loose in this country were it not for policies enacted into law by bleeding heart liberals. So, what do they have to say on that topic?
But since the liberal idiot running the state where this happened, Gavin Newsom, wants to talk about nothing but guns, let us discuss the gun used.
- It was a an AR-15, a gun that is already illegal in the state where this incident occurred.
- It contained a 30 round magazine, a magazine that is also illegal in that state.
- It was carried by someone who cannot legally own a gun or the ammunition in it.
- The gun itself was a home-built (liberals like to call them “ghost guns”) AR-15 from what was likely an 80% receiver. Years ago, California enacted laws requiring any home-built firearm to be licensed with the state, and serialized, prior to assembly, thus making this gun illegal on yet another level.
- Side Note: no evil manufacturer to try and sue…
- California law requires “ammunition background checks” at the sale of ammo, which clearly did not prevent this prohibited person from acquiring the ammo.
So, it is plain to see, the abundance of gun laws that California has in place not only failed in this case, but as anyone with a brain understands, never ever had the slightest chance of preventing this tragedy. If the following statement comes as a shock to you, you are likely someone who voted for these very gun laws or the liberals who enacted them:
Criminals do not obey the law, and will always find a way to commit the act they intend to commit.
The Sacramento Sheriff’s Office released a public statement about the incident, once the facts were gathered, long after Newsom had spouted off. They later updated that release as more information became known. I hate to use the word “refreshing” when discussing a topic like this, but the way the Sheriff’s Office worded the post is just that. No blaming the gun, no hyperbole, just the facts, with the blame laid right where it belongs.
You know what absolutely, most definitely would have prevented this heinous act from ever being perpetrated? If Gavin Newsom and the rest of the bleeding heart liberals in California (and many other states) got the hell out of the way and actually let the cops do their damned jobs! “We are working closely with local law enforcement” my ass! You are actively preventing them from doing their jobs, jailing criminals and removing the illegal alien criminals from this country.
Gavin Newsom, and everyone who voted for him and those like him who passed the sanctuary state law – YOU liberals are responsible for those four innocent lives lost that horrible night.
